{"id":878174,"date":"2019-06-10T06:25:23","date_gmt":"2019-06-10T00:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/guitarmonk.com\/?p=878174"},"modified":"2019-07-13T03:53:27","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T22:23:27","slug":"history-doctor-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/guitarmonk.com\/news-info\/history-doctor-day\/","title":{"rendered":"History of Doctor&#8217;s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">HISTORY OF DOCTOR&#8217;S DAY<\/span><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Doctors play an irreplaceable role in our lives.\u00a0 From Homeopaths to Heart Specialists, from Dentists to Neurosurgeons, from Physicians to Pediatricians, they are serving us tirelessly every day.\u00a0 It is difficult to imagine a life without doctors.\u00a0 Their contribution to the individual lives and communities deserves recognition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Doctor\u2019s Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries.\u00a0 In India it is commemorated in the memory of eminent physician Sh. Bidhan Chandra Roy who was born on 1<sup>st<\/sup> July 1882.\u00a0 During the struggle for freedom and thereafter, he was a great proponent of providing free medical services to the poor.\u00a0 He served as the Chief Minister of huge Bengal province.\u00a0 He was friend, follower and doctor of Mahatma Gandhi.\u00a0 When the Mahatma underwent fast during Quit India movement near Poona, Dr. B. C. Roy was appointed to look after his health condition.\u00a0 [Perhaps Dr. B. C. Roy was as famous as Dr. Naresh Trehan of today who appeared on the National T.V. \u00a0to tend the health of modern day Gandhi \u2013 Anna Hazare!]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An interesting anecdote from the life of Dr. B. C. Roy goes like this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mother Teresa had taken help of Dr. B. C. Roy for clean water, electricity, garbage removal and other basic facilities which a civilized society needs.\u00a0 One day she politely commented in a light mood \u2013 \u2018I hope you don\u2019t think we Sisters are tackling too much, Dr. Roy?\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2018Not at all.\u00a0 Make it bigger.\u00a0 Bigger, Mother.\u00a0 A good cause never suffers for want of money!\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He had a faith as great as that of Mother Teresa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. B. C. Roy\u2019s invaluable words to the youth may be quoted here. \u00a0\u2018Youth must not take part in strikes and fasts but should study and commit themselves to social work.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Guitarmonk celebrating the Doctor\u2019s Day since 2010 in a unique and pioneering way.\u00a0 They go to doctors all over (to\u00a0 and present them with bouquets, flowers, music salutation and a gift therapy music album .\u00a0 The response from doctors have always been overwhelming.\u00a0 The event got noticed by the media.\u00a0 Prof. Kiran Walia, The Then Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the Government of Delhi complemented the organizers via a certificate.\u00a0 Dr. Lal Path Labs labeled this event as the historic and 1<sup>st<\/sup> ever event of its kind in India and also in Asia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vide such celebrations, Guitarmonk connected the fraternity of doctors with the people.
